The Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) Update provides data on key indicators related to optimal feeding practices. The data are taken from the results of the Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) conducted between 1998 and 2004 in 43 countries in five regions around the world: sub-Saharan Africa, North Africa/West Asia/Europe, Central Asia, South/Southeast Asia, and Latin America and the Caribbean. Feeding practices included in this update are related to breastfeeding practices, feeding of solid and semi-solid foods to breastfed and non-breastfed children, micronutrient intake, and feeding during diarrhea.
