Special Issue Based on a World Health Organization Expert Consultation on Complementary Feeding. Food & Nutrition Bulletin. Vol 24. No 1, 2003
This Special Supplement contains the background papers that were developed for the Expert Consultation on Complementary Feeding, convened by WHO in 2001 [Report from that consultation available here and at: www.who.int/nutrition/publications/Complementary_Feeding.pdf ] The papers examined a range of topics including energy and nutrient requirements of young children, caregiver behaviours influencing young child feeding, macro-level approaches and household food technologies to improve availability of complementary foods, and lessons learnt for scaling-up programs. As one of the outcomes of the Expert Consultation, PAHO/WHO published the Guiding Principles for Complementary Feeding of the Breastfed Child.
