'The treatment of acutely malnourished infants under six months of age in emergencies is an area of continued research and debate. CTC programmes have treated infants by referring them to the stabilisation centre (see Chapter 8) and using recommended protocols. However, the number of malnourished infants encountered in this age group has been small. WHO is developing guidelines for this age group, in consultation with other members of the international nutrition community (Interagency Working Group, 2001) and (ENN et al., 2004). It is hoped that in the future, these guidelines can be incorporated into CTC protocols. SFP protocols includesupport for infants through nutritional support to breastfeeding mothers (see Chapter 6).'
